Area and Perimeter: AFCAT Numerical Ability
Area and Perimeter has about a hundred practice questions in the bank and no AFCAT past-year question yet; about one in six is HARD. Those HARD ones gather where two figures meet, a square drawn inside a circle or a region cut from both, and each of them comes apart into single-figure formulas once the length the figures share is found. So the notes build the figures one at a time, each formula grown from the one before it: the triangle as half a rectangle, the hexagon as six triangles, the sector as a slice of a circle. Only after that do they put figures together, and then stretch them.
The handout has every subtopic, worked example, formula and trap with answers shown. The formula sheet is the chapter’s formulas and traps alone, on one page.
Subtopic notes
Rectangles and Squares: Area, Perimeter, Diagonal and Cost
16 questionsArea is length × breadth, perimeter is twice their sum and the diagonal comes from Pythagoras; most questions give two facts and ask you to find the sides first.
Triangles: Base and Height, Right Triangles and Heron's Formula
12 questionsA triangle's area is half its base times its height; when the height is not given, Pythagoras or Heron's formula supplies it from the sides.
Rhombus, Trapezium, Parallelogram and Regular Polygons
20 questionsEvery figure here is cut into triangles or measured from its diagonals: a rhombus by half the product of its diagonals, a trapezium by the mean of its parallel sides, a hexagon as six equilateral triangles.
Circles, Rings, Sectors and Grazing
23 questionsCircumference 2πr and area πr², and the fraction θ/360 of each for an arc or a sector; rings, wheels, clock hands and tethered animals are those formulas in a story.
Combined Figures: Inscribed Shapes and Shaded Regions
18 questionsOne figure drawn inside another, or a region cut from two of them: find the measure the two figures share, then add or subtract the pieces.
Change in Dimensions: Scaling and Percentage Changes
12 questionsWhen every length is multiplied by k, perimeters are multiplied by k and areas by k²; percentage changes in two sides multiply, they do not add.
