Data Interpretation — CDS Elementary Mathematics
Data Interpretation has 52 past-year questions in CDS Elementary Mathematics, in 13 of the twenty-one sittings from 2016 (II) to 2026 (II). Tables alone account for 24 of them, most items come in sets of two to five on one table or chart, and only one is HARD: the skill is arithmetic with the right base, not hard mathematics. The pages go from tables to pie charts, bar graphs and paragraph-style caselets.
Every subtopic, worked example, formula and trap in one printable document — answers shown, ready to share.
Subtopic notes
Reading Tables
24 PYQsA table question asks for a percentage, a change or an average built from a few cells; the work is picking the right cells and the right base.
Pie Charts
18 PYQsA pie chart spreads a total over 360°, so a sector's angle is its share of the total: 1% of the whole is 3.6°.
Bar and Line Graphs
5 PYQsRead each bar's value, total across companies where asked, then compare year with year as a percentage of the earlier year.
Caselets: Data Given in Words
5 PYQsA caselet gives its data as a paragraph; turn it into a table first, filling every cell, and each question becomes a lookup.

Formulas (2)
Watch out for (3)
- Divide by the OLD figure→ Percentages and percentage change
- 'More than' versus 'more than or equal to'→ Percentages and percentage change
- Which average?→ Totals, averages and closest-to-average
Formulas (2)
Watch out for (3)
- The total changes too→ Angle, share and count
- Radius is not the total→ Angle, share and count
- Same share is not the same size→ Comparing charts with different totals
Watch out for (1)
- A doubling is 100%, not 200%→ Year-on-year change and percentage bars
Formulas (1)
Watch out for (1)
- A percentage of which total?→ Build the table first
