Modern Periodic Table — MHT-CET Chemistry
The Modern Periodic Table is a small chapter in MHT-CET Chemistry: eighteen past-year questions, sixteen of them EASY. It asks you to place an element from its configuration and to rank elements by size, ionisation enthalpy, electron gain enthalpy or electronegativity. Every PYQ is tagged.
Every subtopic, worked example, formula and trap in one printable document — answers shown, ready to share.
Subtopic notes
Locating an Element: Period, Group and Block from the Configuration
8 PYQsAn element's period is the highest shell number in its configuration, its block is the subshell that receives the last electron, and its group follows from how many electrons sit in the outer s, p and (n−1)d subshells.
Periodic Trends: Radius, Ionisation Enthalpy, Electron Gain and Electronegativity
10 PYQsAcross a period the nuclear charge grows and the shell stays the same, so atoms shrink and hold their electrons harder; down a group a new shell is added, so atoms grow and hold them less — every trend in the chapter follows from those two facts.
