Laws of Motion — MHT-CET Physics
Laws of Motion has 47 past-year questions in the MHT-CET bank and only 5 HARD. Newton's second law does most of the work — a weighing machine in a lift, blocks in contact, an Atwood machine, a bob swinging in a vertical circle. The rest is momentum: impulse as the area under a force graph, rates such as a machine gun's, and collisions with a coefficient of restitution; a short last page is equilibrium and the centre of mass. Every PYQ is tagged.
Every subtopic, worked example, formula and trap in one printable document — answers shown, ready to share.
Subtopic notes
Newton's Laws: Lifts, Pulleys, Circles and Power
25 PYQsThe net force on a body equals its mass times its acceleration, measured in a frame that is not itself accelerating; applied body by body it gives the reading in a lift, the push between blocks, the tension in a pulley string, and — with v²/r as the acceleration — the forces in circular motion.
Impulse, Momentum and Collisions
17 PYQsImpulse — force times time, or the area under a force–time graph — equals the change in momentum; with no external force the total momentum of a system is conserved, and in a collision the coefficient of restitution e compares the speed of separation to the speed of approach.
Equilibrium and the Centre of Mass
5 PYQsA body is in equilibrium when both the net force and the net torque on it are zero; the centre of mass of a set of particles is their mass-weighted average position, which for two particles lies on the line joining them, nearer the heavier.
