Mensuration 2D: SPI Mathematics
Mensuration 2D has 27 questions in the SPI bank, and two of them are from the 2022 paper. Sixteen are EASY, eleven MODERATE and none HARD: each is one formula for a perimeter or an area, sometimes run backwards to find a side or a radius. The questions that go wrong are the ones that mix up perimeter and area, radius and diameter, or metres and centimetres, so each page names those slips beside its formula.
The handout has every subtopic, worked example, formula and trap with answers shown. The formula sheet is the chapter’s formulas and traps alone, on one page.
Subtopic notes
Rectangles, Squares and Triangles
13 questionsPerimeter is the distance round a shape and area is the space it covers; for a rectangle they are 2(l + b) and l × b.
Circumference and Area of a Circle
10 questionsThe distance round a circle is 2πr and the space inside it is πr²; with π as 22/7, radii that are multiples of 7 give whole answers.
Sectors and Segments
4 questionsA sector is a slice of a circle cut by two radii; its area and arc are the same fraction of the whole circle as its angle is of 360°.
