Gravitation: SPI Physics
Gravitation has 5 questions in the SPI bank, and three of them are from the 2022 paper. Three are EASY and two MODERATE. One needs the law of gravitation turned round to find a mass; the other four ask for a fact: where g is largest, why, a satellite's period and the escape velocity. The page runs in that order, from Newton's law to g to satellites, and keeps every number with its unit.
The handout has every subtopic, worked example, formula and trap with answers shown. The formula sheet is the chapter’s formulas and traps alone, on one page.

Watch out for (7)
- Halving the force when the distance doubles→ Newton's law of gravitation
- Forgetting to square the distance→ Newton's law of gravitation
- Putting the largest g at the equator→ The value of g and how it changes over the Earth
- Giving a reason that has nothing to do with gravity→ The value of g and how it changes over the Earth
- Saying mass changes on the Moon→ The value of g and how it changes over the Earth
- Reading 11.2 as m/s→ Satellites and escape velocity
- Matching a geostationary satellite to a year→ Satellites and escape velocity
