Mensuration 2D: SSC CGL Quantitative Aptitude
Mensuration 2D has 138 questions in the SSC CGL Tier I bank, and 79 of them come from the 2025 shifts. A hundred and eighteen are EASY and twenty MODERATE, with none HARD, so marks here are lost to a wrong formula or slow arithmetic, not to hard ideas. Arcs, sectors and segments alone make up 58 of the rows, and nearly all of them turn on one fraction, the angle over 360°. Two habits save the most time: use 22/7 when the radius is a multiple of 7 and keep π as a symbol when the options do, and check any shaded or leftover area by its size before trusting it.
The handout has every subtopic, worked example, formula and trap with answers shown. The formula sheet is the chapter’s formulas and traps alone, on one page.
Subtopic notes
Rectangles, Squares and Other Quadrilaterals
25 PYQsA rectangle's area is length times breadth and its perimeter is twice their sum; a square, a parallelogram and a trapezium each have one short rule of their own.
Areas of Triangles
21 PYQsA triangle's area is half its base times its height; when the height is not given, use two sides and the angle between them, or all three sides.
Circumference, Wheels and Rings
25 PYQsA circle's boundary is 2πr long and it encloses πr²; a wheel moves one circumference per turn, and a ring is the difference of two circles.
Arc Length and Sector Perimeter
19 PYQsAn arc is the same fraction of the circumference as its angle is of 360°, and a sector's perimeter is that arc plus two radii.
Sector Area
32 PYQsA sector's area is the same fraction of πr² as its angle is of 360°, or half its arc times its radius.
Combined and Shaded Regions
16 PYQsA shaded region is a whole shape with known pieces taken away or added on, so its area is a sum or difference of areas from the earlier pages.
