Arithmetic Reasoning: SSC CGL Reasoning
Arithmetic Reasoning has 74 questions in the SSC CGL Tier I bank, every one from the 2025 shifts: sixty-nine EASY and five MODERATE. Despite the name, they are short Quantitative Aptitude problems set inside the Reasoning part, and each is meant to take far less than the 36 seconds a Tier I question allows. What wins the marks is knowing the one-line method for each kind of problem and a quick check, such as the last digit or putting an option back into the question, that catches the wrong options SSC prints on purpose.
The handout has every subtopic, worked example, formula and trap with answers shown. The formula sheet is the chapter’s formulas and traps alone, on one page.
Subtopic notes
Calculation and Number Facts
19 PYQsPlain arithmetic set as a reasoning question: work the brackets first, know the small squares and cubes, and use LCM and HCF for questions about remainders.
Equations from Word Problems
15 PYQsTurn each fact in the question into an equation in one or two unknowns, solve, and check the answer against every fact, or put the options straight into the facts.
Ratio and Mixtures
10 PYQsA ratio splits a total into equal parts; find the size of one part, and in a mixture keep fixed the ingredient that is not being added.
Percentages and Interest
12 PYQsA percentage is a fraction out of 100: change it to a simple fraction to find a part, divide by it to find the whole, and multiply the factors when two changes come one after the other.
Speed, Time and Work
11 PYQsSpeed is distance over time in matching units, a stream adds to or takes from a boat's speed, and a job's total work (workers times time) stays the same however it is shared.
Counting, Chance and Shapes
7 PYQsCount pairs with n times (n minus 1) over 2, find a probability as favourable over total, and use the standard volume and diagonal facts for shapes.
