Classification: SSC CGL Reasoning
Classification has 212 questions in the SSC CGL Tier I bank: 79 from the 2025 shifts, 74 from the 2024 shifts and 59 from the 2023 shifts. There are 153 EASY, 58 MODERATE and just one HARD, and every one asks the same thing: three options follow one rule and the fourth does not. The rule changes from question to question, so what wins the mark is a fixed order of tests. Turn letters into numbers first, write every step or gap, and keep testing until a rule splits the options three against one. Read the last line of each stem too: a few ask for the option that keeps the rule, not the one that breaks it.
The handout has every subtopic, worked example, formula and trap with answers shown. The formula sheet is the chapter’s formulas and traps alone, on one page.
Subtopic notes
Number Classification
16 PYQsFour numbers or groups are given and three share a property: prime, square, cube, a divisibility rule or a digit pattern. Name the property and find the one that breaks it.
Number Pairs
47 PYQsIn three of four number pairs the second number is made from the first by one rule. Find the rule from the pairs that agree and test the last one exactly.
Number Triads and Sets
22 PYQsEach option is a set of three numbers tied together by one rule: equal steps, a fixed ratio, two numbers made from one, or one number made from the other two.
Letter Classification
20 PYQsChange each letter to its place in the alphabet, then compare the clusters: equal steps, letters in a run, or letters that are opposites of each other.
Letter Gap Patterns
39 PYQsLetter clusters whose steps are not all the same: the gaps grow or shrink by a rule, or the letters move forward and back in turn. Write every gap and compare the whole list.
Letter, Number and Symbol Groups
14 PYQsEach option is a short group of terms like K11@, mixing a letter, a number and a symbol. Three groups follow one pattern in every part; the odd group breaks it in one part.
Word Classification
54 PYQsFour words or word pairs are given and three belong to one group: the same kind of thing, a narrower group inside it, the same meaning, or the same relation inside a pair. Name the group and find the word outside it.
