CDS Maths, 2016 to 2026: 2,096 questions, and Trigonometry up from 9 to 13 a paper

Every CDS Maths paper from CDS (II) 2016 to CDS (II) 2026, chapter by chapter. Each paper is 100 questions, so a count in one paper compares directly with a count in another.

How to read this page

Rates are questions per paper in three periods: 2016-2020 (9 papers), 2021-2023 (6 papers) and 2024-2026 (6 papers). Six papers is a small sample — one heavy paper moves a chapter’s recent rate by a question or more — so read a change as a direction, not a forecast. Nothing here predicts the next paper.

What moved

Trigonometry is now the biggest chapter on the paper

Rising

Trigonometric Ratios and Identities: 8.78 → 11.67 → 13.00 questions a paper

It has risen in each window and has not dropped below 13 questions in any of the last four papers. If your preparation has one priority, it is this chapter.

Number System rose too, but it swings from paper to paper

Rising

Number System: 9.78 → 9.50 → 13.00 questions a paper

Its recent rate is up, but single papers range widely — one had 25 questions, another 4. Treat it as a large chapter every paper, not a growing one: prepare it fully and do not read the average as a promise.

Statistics has grown into a full chapter

Rising

Statistics: 3.78 → 2.67 → 5.00 questions a paper

Two of the last four papers set eight or more questions. It stays one of the cheapest chapters to prepare, so the rise makes it worth more.

Drill Statistics from 2024–2026

Quadrilaterals picked up in the recent papers

Rising

Quadrilaterals: 2.44 → 1.67 → 3.67 questions a paper

It was a two-question chapter; two of the last three papers set six or more.

Drill Quadrilaterals from 2024–2026

Mensuration 3D is lighter than it was

Falling

Mensuration 3D: 8.11 → 9.67 → 6.67 questions a paper

Still a cornerstone chapter at several questions a paper, but below its middle-window peak. Do not cut it; do not give it more time than Trigonometry.

Drill Mensuration 3D from 2024–2026

Linear Equations has almost left the paper

Falling

Linear Equations: 2.67 → 2.50 → 0.17 questions a paper

It has set one question in the six most recent papers. The skill — turning words into two equations — still carries most arithmetic questions, so learn it through those chapters rather than as its own.

Drill Linear Equations from 2024–2026

Time and Work has halved

Falling

Time and Work: 2.67 → 2.33 → 1.33 questions a paper

Three of the last four papers set none. It is still quick to learn, so keep it, but after the rising chapters.

Data Interpretation comes and goes

Falling

Data Interpretation: 2.56 → 3.17 → 1.67 questions a paper

Seven of the 21 papers set a block of four to eight questions around charts; the rest set three or fewer, often none. When it appears it is cheap marks, so learn to read the four chart types; do not count on it.

The paper has got harder, unevenly

From 2017 to 2022, 14% of questions were HARD. From 2023 to 2026 it was 24% — but not every year: see the table. Plan for more HARD questions than older papers suggest, and practise leaving the ones you cannot open.

Every chapter, paper by paper

One column per paper. A zero is a measured zero: the chapter set no question in that paper. The footer is each paper’s total; 3 papers hold fewer than 100 questions in the bank.
