When you’ll see it
A parallelogram, rhombus, trapezium or cyclic quadrilateral with sides, angles or diagonals given.
How this chapter is tested
54 questions, rising from 2.4 a paper in 2016-2020 to 3.7 in 2024-2026, at 20% HARD. Rhombus and kite has never set a HARD question; the general-quadrilateral page is the expensive one at 36%.
The sub-skills
The distinct skills inside the chapter, in the order to learn them.
Parallelograms
Diagonals bisect each other; area = base × height.
Rhombus and kite
Diagonals meet at right angles; area = ½ d₁d₂; side² = (d₁/2)² + (d₂/2)².
Trapeziums
Area = ½(a + b)h; the diagonals divide each other in the ratio of the parallel sides.
Cyclic quadrilaterals
Opposite angles add to 180°.
Traps to expect
Distractor shapes this chapter reuses. The Traps page covers the ones that cut across chapters.
Rhombus diagonals
They are perpendicular but not equal — that would be a square.
Learn it before you drill it
This chapter has full teaching notes — foundations, worked examples, self-checks and a mastery check for each subtopic. Read the notes once, then drill subtopic by subtopic below.
